Of course, the comfort of the driver in the car is also needed, but this comfort should not create difficulties in driving and weaken your attention. Therefore, here you need to choose the middle ground: the driver's seat should be set up so that it is comfortable to be in it, and it is convenient to drive the car.

Otherwise, a prolonged stay in a monotonous position in a state of constant muscle tension can have a very negative effect on the health of the driver, as well as on his ability to drive a car.

With improperly adjusted sitting, diseases such as blood congestion, cervical and lumbar osteochondrosis, arthritis can develop, and all these ailments can be accompanied by significant nervous disorders. In general, whatever one may say, but the driver's seat must be adjusted.

Basic settings for the driver's seat

All modern cars have a whole range of different settings of this kind, allowing to ensure a comfortable and safe position of the driver behind the steering wheel of the car. Let's consider the most common ones:

longitudinal adjustments to move the seat towards or away from the steering wheel;
backrest tilt;
the height of the pillow. The pillow can be adjusted to higher or lower positions - it depends on the individual dimensions of the driver;
lumbar support;
steering wheel position adjustment (not available on all machines);
headrests.

Setting up the driver's seat

Fit and longitudinal adjustments

Before proceeding with the longitudinal adjustments, you need to settle into the seat with maximum comfort. In this case, you need to sit tightly enough in relation to the pillow and back so that there is no gap between the lower back and the back of the chair.

After that, you need to depress the clutch and gas pedals. In this case, you should not reach with your feet to the pedals, and on the other hand, your knees should not protrude so as to interfere with the rotation of the steering wheel. While pressing down on the pedals, make sure that the heels are not in the air, but remain on the floor. The angle of the bent knees should be about 120 degrees.

The first indicator that you are sitting incorrectly is a fully extended leg when you fully depress the pedal. To fix this, move the seat closer to the steering wheel.

If your knees are bent excessively, the seat must be pushed back. As a result of neglecting these rules, you will be uncomfortable behind the wheel - all your weight will load the pelvic area as much as possible. From this, the lateral muscles will be in a state of overstrain, blood circulation will become worse, and all this can extremely negatively affect your driving response.

Backrest tilt

In order to properly adjust the driver's seat, the optimum tilt of the backrest of the driver's seat is extremely important. An overly reclined backrest will not give a correct fit while driving, as well as a too tilted forward.

The most acceptable backrest angle is from 95 to 110 degrees.

If the angle of the backrest is less than 95 degrees, you will feel a serious load on the lower back, and your head will be excessively high. And if the back is too tilted back, the head will sink too low, which will suffer from the angle of view, and you will have to constantly reach for the steering wheel.

We bring to your attention an algorithm for checking the correct adjustment of the backrest:

put your hands on the steering wheel of the car and pay attention to the location of your hands: they should be in accordance with the hour hands either at 10 and 2 o'clock, or at 9 and 3 o'clock;
the shoulder blades should fit snugly against the back, leaving no space;
the elbow joints should not be fully extended;
the position of the palms is slightly below the shoulders.

Also, try placing your wrist on the top of the steering wheel. If you are sitting correctly, then your palm will hang down calmly, and your upper back will remain tightly pressed against the back of the chair.

Cushion height

The height of the seat should be adjusted so that there is about 10-15 cm between the ceiling of the cabin and the crown of your head. In this case, you should have the maximum angle of view of the road. If necessary, you can adjust the steering wheel so that it does not obstruct the dashboard.

Headrest

Place the headrest at about eye level. In the process of movement, it is not recommended to lean back on it with your head - tilt your head slightly forward. The distance from the headrest to the back of the head should be no less and no more than 3-5 cm.

Place the back of your head in the center of the headrest. This position will prevent possible head injuries during sudden accelerations.

How to set up the driver's seat memory

Let's consider setting up the driver's seat memory using the example of the Insol seat memory unit. With this unit, you can install and fix the seat in the position of your choice at the touch of a button.

After a car wash or after visiting a service station, as well as after using the car by another driver, the driver's seat will be in a completely different position, and it is not very convenient to return it manually. And then the tuned memory of the driver's seat will come to your aid.

We program the first position. To do this, first move the seat cushion as far back as possible and down as much as possible, and set the backrest vertically. Then, using the operating buttons, set the desired position.

To fix it, press the command button and hold it for several seconds until the fixing signal appears. After that, the set position is saved in the device's memory.

In order to set the seat to the programmed position, you need to briefly press the command button. A beep will sound when pressed and the chair will then move to the stored position.
