As it became known, the French company PSA Group buys from General Motors the well-known automaker Opel and its division Vauxhall. Let's consider the details of the deal.

Many automobile factories and brands are under the management of the well-known General Motors company in the world. One such manufacturer is the German Opel and its British subsidiary Vauxhall. According to reliable data, the French company PSA Group will buy these two automakers.

In terms of money waste, Opel will cost the PSA Group 1.3 billion euros, and its Vauxhall division will pull another 0.9 billion euros. With this purchase, the PSA Group plans to increase its share of the European market by 17%. As a result of such actions, the French company will become the second largest car production after the German manufacturer Volkswagen AG.

Both the French and American sides believe that such a deal will only benefit Opel and Vauxhall. New developments, research, grouping of industries will only improve competition in the market and make the brand more in demand among buyers. The PSA Group's ownership list will include six new assembly plants, five component production facilities and an engineering center located in Rüsselheim, although this list does not include a modern and new development center located in Turin, Italy. This means that still a small share of General Motors will remain in the development of the latest technologies. According to representatives of both parties, the legal cases are expected to be resolved by the end of 2017. Until then, the company will be owned by GM. GM's intellectual property will also be retained until the vehicles move to the PSA platform. During this period, the French company takes full social security for its employees, and there are about 40 thousand of them, including questions regarding the payment of pensions.

It is reliably known that PSA Group will continue to support Holden, Opel and Buick cars, which are co-platforms. Meanwhile, an agreement will be drawn up on the joint development of electrified vehicles. Also, the option of PSA Group joining the joint development of General Motors and Honda regarding hydrogen fuel cell vehicles is not excluded. Today, the famous cars of the PSA Group company are Citroen, Peugeot and DS Automobiles. In China, PSA Group has built a facility with DongFeng.

The first information that PSA Group wants to buy Opel and Vauxhall from General Motors became known back in mid-February, while the head of the Opel management Karl-Thomas Neumann was informed only an hour before the information was published in the media. He had his own plans to transform the company and start production of electric vehicles before the beginning of 2030.
