At the auto show in New York, a new generation of the Subaru Outback station wagon was presented. The appearance of the new Outback is practically no different from the previous generation. The front part received vertically positioned LED fog lights. The rear part got a spoiler on the tailgate, the feet got a sharp shape, and the rear bumper increased in size. If we look at the Subaru Outback interior, the changes are more noticeable. Most trim levels will now receive the new 11.6 ″, vertically positioned touchscreen display of the infotainment system.
In addition to the main, entertainment function, the display also serves as a control panel for climate control, vehicle functions and security systems. In most cases, the interior of the Subaru Outback will be two-tone, the seats have received a water-repellent material, and the other part is leather upholstery. For the rest of the points, there are no significant changes. The basis for the new Subaru Outback is the SGP (Subaru Global Platform) platform. Due to the use of ultra-strong steel, the torsional rigidity of the body increased by 70%. At the same time, the stiffness of the rear subframe and the bending stiffness of the body were improved by 100%. Such improvements significantly affected the safety of the 2020 Subaru Outback. According to company representatives, the station wagon body can absorb 40% more force in a side or frontal collision.
As for the new generation Subaru Outback units, the buyer was offered an atmospheric unit with direct injection, a volume of 2.5 liters and a power of 184 hp. (239 Nm). A turbocharged engine with a volume of 2.4 liters will be able to produce 264 horses with a volume of 376 Nm. Regardless of the engine chosen, a four-wheel drive variator is installed in a pair, which is controlled by electronics. If we talk about comfort and safety systems, then the list of the new Subaru Outback includes:
- LED optics with cornering illumination;
- lane keeping assistant;
- Wi-Fi access point;
- modern audio system Harman Kardon with 12 speakers;
- rear view camera with a 180-degree view;
- adaptive cruise control;
- complex of security systems Eyesight (driver assistants).
The price of the new Subaru Outback has not yet been announced. The official start of sales of the sixth generation is scheduled for fall 2019, although the model will be positioned as 2020. In total, they will offer 7 configurations to choose from, they will differ among themselves in technical characteristics, security systems and internal design, the external part will receive minimal changes.
